The Orford Conservation Commission is sponsoring their inaugural “Mount Cube to the River” hike! Join the Conservation Commission as they launch what they hope will become an annual Orford hiking tradition. Details from the Orford Conservation Commission below:
______________
The Mount Cube to the River hike will start at the Appalachian Trail (AT) Mount Cube trailhead on 25A in East Orford. We will then hike up the AT to the summit of Cube, continue down the Cross Rivendell Trail (CRT) to Baker Road, and then follow the CRT to Sunday Mountain and Rivendell Academy. From Rivendell Academy, it will be a short final walk to the Connecticut River at the Orford Boat Landing. The full hike will run 14+ miles with a total elevation gain of ~3000 feet. We think the hike will be an extraordinary opportunity to appreciate and celebrate the beauty of Orford. With the hike’s distance and elevation gain, it is a good, healthy, challenge. We encourage all participants to be ready. Wear your sturdy hiking boots and clothing for potentially variable weather over the course of the hike. Also be sure to bring water and snacks for the full outing.
To ease the car logistics of the hike, we will start by meeting on Saturday at 8 AM at the Rivendell Academy upper parking lot. We will be organizing carpooling out to the AT trailhead in East Orford — to allow hikers to leave their cars at Rivendell Academy, near the hike’s finish. To participate, and help us organize the carpooling, we ask you to register in advance by email to Chris Gothberg at cgothberg@gmail.com. Chris will be organizing the car pooling logistics for all hike participants.
Our inaugural “Mount Cube to the River” hike already has more than 10 registered hikers. We hope this year’s hike will be the beginning of a great Orford hiking tradition. Please join us and help us get this new tradition started. Again, please email us at cgothberg@gmail.com to register for this special Orford hiking outing.
